MEET KATE

Kate Sondag is a Bay Area based artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Charleston. Kate had the opportunity to work with a diversity of artists, namely West Fraiser and Teil Duncan. Being exposed to a range of techniques and mediums allowed Kate to develop her own style and aesthetic. After completing her degree, she worked as an Interior Designer for Martin Kobus Home and Gary Hutton Design. Her fascination with the interplay of color and light was born. Kate finds inspiration from her travels. Experiencing a diversity of built and natural landscapes developed her sensitivity to both color and shape. Her approach to painting is deliberate, yet spontaneous. Layering acrylic and oil paint allows her to fuse geometric shapes, light, and color while creating a free flowing overlay of lines. Blending purposeful marks with fluid strokes results in a dance of color and shape on the canvas. For Kate, art is a way for her to reconnect to interior design, fashion, and culture. She thinks holistically about the creation of her work. With an attention to detail, Kate has the ability to incorporate different elements of a designed space into her art, creating a curated, tailored piece that enhances the design.
